My Personal Story of How a Bad Chemical Burn Inspired Me to Create My Own Natural Formula that Has Helped Over 15,594 Women with Textured Hair Regain Hair Freedom!

Similar to many black young girls, the adults in my life made the decision to relax my hair at a very young age. At first, I loved it! My hair was finally straight, smooth, and long! Similar to many black young girls, the adults in my life made the decision to relax my hair at a very young age.

At first, I loved it! My hair was finally straight, smooth, and long! Once my teenage years hit, I began to develop a love/hate relationship with the relaxers I had once been so excited about. I constantly battled the stress of wanting to have sleek hair to achieve the perfect wrap and sweating my hair out after a touch-up.

As an active teenager, I felt I had to choose between the hair I desired and a lifestyle of activity. I was stuck in a never-ending cycle of getting my roots touched up only to sweat it out just a couple of weeks later.

To no one’s surprise, my once thick, lush, and long hair became brittle and thin only to begin breaking off entirely.

In a way, it felt that I only had a little time left before my hair was completely ruined altogether. I didn’t realize how quickly that day would come. In October of 2011, I went in for a routine touch-up which left me with a painful chemical scalp burn.

You know it’s bad when the stylist panics & immediately pours astringent straight onto your scalp! We continued on with the appointment as if nothing happened. She roller sets my hair and I sat under the dryer for 2 hours in so much pain, holding back tears.

After I left the salon, I let the tears flow. For weeks after, I was struggling with a scabby, peeling, and painful scalp.

With each passing day that my scalp didn’t improve, my confidence took another hit. Why couldn’t I seem to get my scalp under control? What was meant to be a routine touch-up changed the trajectory of my life entirely! Each day, I became more aware that I had no option but to go natural.

I wasn’t ready for the big chop, so I decided a transition was all my heart could handle at the time. I said goodbye to touch-ups and filled my time with research to learn everything I could about natural hair as a black woman.

During this season, I tried every product on the market created for natural hair. I learned that dryness was the enemy of the results I was desiring.

I discovered that in order for my hair to thrive, it needed natural, fresh ingredients, and a consistent routine that it could depend on. All things that were completely non-existent to my needed level before.

Based on my research, I create a little oil mix, which is now the Organic Oil Blend.

This became my go-to for everything– from hot oil treatments to scalp massages. After a few weeks of this new moisturizing routine, I began to notice my scalp was actually beginning to improve!

I shared my research and a few oil mixes with friends and coworkers and to my enjoyment, they fell in love with the results they were experiencing.

Fast forward 6 years with over $100k in research and development, that little oil mix I created in my kitchen became a full product line for Curls Dynasty.

The first step to going natural is difficult, but I promise you, it is worth the effort!
