Nothing compares to that feeling when you nail the perfect Wash and Go. When you do finally find a routine that works, you’ve got to share it with the world. So we’re being a good friend and sharing 5 simple steps to achieve the perfect Wash and Go style that if done correctly will leave your hair poppin’ for days.
1. Begin with a Wash
It all starts with fresh hair. The cleaner your hair, the better your Wash and Go will turn out.
We know how much of a drag wash day can be, but it will all be worth it when you achieve the perfect hair style.
When washing, be sure to thoroughly shampoo to lift any excess product buildup as this will prevent successful styling.
2. Moisture is Key
We can’t stress this enough, moisture is the most critical part of your Wash and Go.
Once you’ve completed your wash and rinsed out your conditioner, allow your hair to dry slightly until damp.
It’s very important to work on damp hair for the next few steps; not dry hair.
3. Detangle your Curls
Gentle reminder, NEVER detangle on dry hair. Keep a spray bottle close in case your hair starts to dry so you can re-dampen your hair with ease.
Take your time here and work in sections. The thicker your hair, the more sections you need.
Using a leave-in conditioner, first detangle with your fingers. Then run a wide-tooth comb through to get through finer knots you may have missed.
Detangling properly is the only way you’re going to achieve smooth, defined, juicy curls. Move patiently and thoroughly, it will be worth it.
4. Lock It In & Style
Now that you’re moisturized and detangled, it’s time to lock it all in.
Unlike the moisturizer, you don’t want to overdo this product. If you do, you’ll wind up with white flakes and no one wants that. A little goes a long way.
Apply a small amount per section and work lightly through your hair. Be gentle and be patient!
We suggest using Icing on a Curl to make all your poppin’ curl dreams come true.
Then, in medium sections, apply a styler with a good amount of hold. Smooth, rake, shingle through each section to achieve max definition. We recommend Vanilla Cream Custard for this job. Allow hair to dry.
5. Sleep with The Banding Method
Got shrinkage? This step can change everything. If you haven’t used The Banding Method before, it’s a safe, simple and effective method to stretch your curls some.
Simply separate your hair into 4-6 sections, depending on thickness. Then use scrunchies to tie along the length of your hair. Avoid tying the ends so you don’t flatten them. This also helps get your curls intact while you sleep.
Once you wake up, apply a little oil into each section of your hair. Fluff it out and you’re good to go!
Enjoy your perfect Wash and Go!
